FRUIT EXPORT GUARANTEE.
RAIL CHARGES; INI ENGLAND* PAYMENT BY GOVERNMENT# [by telegraph.—own corresponds*!*.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. On the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. 0. J. Ha whan, the Govornment decided at a meeting of the 'abinet yesterday afternoon to pay the inland transportation charges of New 'ealand fruit (shipped to England last season. Fruit was shipped to several English ports, hut in order that it might Ho marketed to the best advantage it had to be transported by rail to various joints, the consignors being thus pub to an appreciable amount of expense for railv?ay charges. It was decided by Cabinet yesterday hat these iia'land transport charges, amounting to about £3IOO, ahould be paid ■y th® Government. The Cabinet was actuated in its decision by the fact that ho distribution of the fruit to different parts of Britain by rail had had the ffect of considerably increasing the returns from sales and reducing the total sum due to the growers under the Government guarantee.
