STOCKS AND SHARES. AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. LITTLE BUSINESS PASSING. Yesterday was another quiet day on the Auckland sharemarket. In Government securities, Soldiers' Bonds, 1933, 51r per cent., sold at £lOl, with further demand at that figure, sellers £lOl 10s. The inquiry for bank shares was maintained with only minor alterations in the rates. Sellers quoted for only a few of the issues and no business was recorded. In insurance offers for South British closed a little easier at 565, sellers unchanged at 56s 9d.- In coal Pukemiros were quoted at 60s at the first call, but eased to 59s 6d at mid-day. In gas. Aucklands were steady at 24s and 26s 6d. The contributing issue wa.s available at 15s 3d, buyers 15s. In mining the firming tendency in Moanataiaris, contributing, was maintained, the market opening at 5s and 4s 9d, and closing at 5s 3d and 4s lid, sales being made at 4s lid and ss. Stocks in Manila at November 30 totalled 150,000, against 164,000; Great Britain, 6428, against 29,374. The sisal market is irregular. On report Mexican offered £3B 10s, e.i.f. Great Britain: Fair demand for No. 2 Tanganyika at £4l; little offering. The New Zealand market is quiet, but steady, with little offering. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. There were no supplies of local apples at the Auckland city markets yesterday Emd as a result Canadians were in better demand. Local green apples suitable for cooking,. which made their first appearance last week, realised 8s to 9s a case, a considerable increase on the prices asked for the first consignment. Plums are coming forward freely and values were fair for most varieties. Owing to the approach of Christmas cherry plums Eire being eagerly sought, but in spite of the increased demand there were sufficient supplies on the market to warrant a drop of Is a case. Strawberries have been marketed in large quantities this week and, although prices eased somewhat, a reverse is expected toward the end of tho week owing to the spirited holiday demand. There was good inquiry for ripe bananas, which realised up to 26s case. Oranges will be very expensive during the next week or two. The Maunganui landed a few cases yesterday, but this- will have little effect on the market price. Other Sydney fruit which arrived yesterday includes Australian cherries and passion fruit, and this morning about 200 cases of apricots are expected at the markets. Tomatoes are decreasing in price owing to the large quantities arriving from both hothouses and gardens. The vegetable market was, as usual, well supplied and prices for new potatoes, green peas, cabbages and cauliflowers depreciated considerably on last week's quotations. A consignment of new season's onions brought lip to l£d per lb. Vegetable marrows arrived in good size and were in keen demand. French beans were scarcer than last week and a rise ' of 2d per lb. was registered. Hen eggs ' remained steady at 2s a dozen and prices should remain high until after the holidays. Farmers' butter fell -id per lb. in price, although the demand was fairly good. The following prices were realised:— FRUIT.
