Nosworthy, announced to-day the details of a new agreement concerning immigrants to New Zealand. Single women under 40 years of age, if nominated or approved domestics, are given free passages. A further concession is extended to single men and juveniles. "The agreement, which became operative as from December 1. relates only, to the fares of Government-assisted migrants/' said Mr. Nosworthy. "Cheap as were the fa,res under the former agreement, there is a stilt further redaction under the new one. Previously domestics were granted free passages;, bnt this concession has now been extended to all nominated single woman under the age of 40, as well as. to domestics. Under the old agreement, single women under 40, other than domestics, paid £ll. That faro will now be paid by single women between the ages of -50 and 50, "The fares of single men have been reduced from £l3 15s to £ll. Hitherto boys up to the age of 17 and girls up to the age of 19 were granted free passages, provided they were accompanied by their parents. But under the new arrangement boys, and girls; up to the age of 19, whether accompanied by garents or not, are allowed free passages," It had been decided also that the contributions madia to the passage moneys by. the British and New Zealand Governmertte would be in : future on an equal basiia. Previously the Dominion had contributed. the greater share. The alteration ■ in contribution, together with the concessions. rejierred to, meant an annual increase of about £12,000 on the British Government's expenditure. There would bo a, considerable annual saving as far as New Zealand was concerned.
