PAPAKURA AFFAIRS.
THE OLD WAIROA ROAD. SCORIA FOR SURFACING. [by telegraph, —own correspondent.] PAPAKUBA, Monday. The Papakura Town Board met this evening, tho chairman, Mr. J. McCall, presiding. Advice was received that the Railways Department had acceded to the board's request for 250 yards of scoria for surfacing the Old Wairoa Road to the railway cottages at Papakura. The board authorised the carting and spreading of the scoria, and also formation work for its reception. The meeting endorsed the request of the Manurewa Town Board to the Highways Board for a subsidy on the cost of maintaining subsidiary roads while used as deviation routes for main highways under reconstruction. In reply to a deputation, the chairman said a twelve-foot strip on each side would be left open for traffic while the Great South Road was being concreted through the business area. It was decided to arrange for supplies of metal for the repair of the Wairoa Highway within the town district until March 31. The building inspector, Mr. G. W. O'Connell, reported that 69 permits, representing a' value in buildings of £22,545, "had been issued by the board this year.
