ARAPUNI POWER WORKS.

BIG LOAD OF MACHINERY. TRAIN CARRIES NEARLY 300 TONS -• • \ The special train carrying machinery and parts of the turbine, to be used at the Arapuni hydro-electric , works left Auckland at 7.30 yesterday morning. The load weighed almost 300 tons, and two engines were required to haul it up the incline between the Newmarket and Remuera stations. It was thought difficulty would be experienced in negotiating the Parnell tunnel, but although the distance between the top and sides of the tunnel and portions of the turbines on each truck was in some cases only a quarter of an inch, the train made a successful clearance.

The train passed through Hamilton about an hour behind schedule time. The various bridges and cuttings en route were negotiated safely.
