ORAKEI BASIN.

Sir, —Now that the negotiations of the City Council with the Harbour Board to secure the Orakei Basin for an aquatic park have prospects of being successful, there is a matter which requires attention. Several subdivisions are taking place on the eastern side of the basin, with no provision for access to the railway station or the basin. Already there are six wellpopulated blind roads between Upland Road and Meadowbank Road, converging on the eastern corner of the basin, which require a small loop road at their termini to the basin, thence a parallel road alongside the railway embankment to which the Public Works Department's attention might be drawn while their plant and filling are at hand. This would give access to the Orakei railway station and waterfront road to the residents of Remuera East, thereby bringing them within 15 minutes' shorter journey of the city, against the present roundabout route. Remuera has more blind roads than any other suburb owing to the nature of the country, and when an opportunity offers to avoid them it should be taken advantage of while the land required is available. T. Browne.
