ECONOMIC PROBLEMS.
■ ■ 111 ' 1 CO-OPERATSON IN EUROPE. A LONDON CONFERENCE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Deo. 5. A conference was held in London between delegates from the British and German Federations of Industries. Subsequently they issued a communique which stated that.it had been agreed that a detailed discussion on tariffs would at present be premature, but that preparatory work is possible. The conference discussed plans for tha interchange of information relating to costs of production. Although the work done was entirely exploratory the greatest cordiality was manifested. The discussion showed that the field for co-operation is wider than was anticipated. The two organisations will further investigate the general European economic situation with a view to discussing it at the next meeting Discussions took place on the question of the possibility of increasing credit insurance and supplying information as to the credit of potential customers. No further steps will be taken, however, until after the forthcoming international meeting of representatives of the European insurance companies. An important disclaimer was issued by the heads of both federations in which they emphasised that the question of international cartels and combines was not discussed by the conference, nor was there any reason for the suggestion that any combined action by British and German industry against any other country's industry was mentioned. i Representatives of both organisations Be id they would have regarded such an action not merely as improper, but also as extremely foolish.
