TRANSPORT SERVICES.

"""" 1 111 * mm' COMPLAINT IN MOUNT EDEN, INADEQUACY OF THE BUSES. The existing facilities for/ passenger transport beyond the Mount Eden and Dominion Road tram termini were criticised at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening. The traffic inspector reported that transport beyond these points was still unsatisfactory. The present bus services were quite inadequate and during rush hours the vehicles were dangerously crowded. The termini were tlie nearest shopping centres for residents in outlying districts and the excessive fares charged to and from these areas tended to increase the cost of liVing for the people. It was obvious that feeder buses to " dead ends" had not served the purpose (or which they were intended. Mr. Ei. M. Morrison said ho had waited upon tho Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. Baildon, in company with other members of the council, and placed before him the position in .'.•oanection with services beyond the tra-n termini. Tho ' urgency of more frequent services was pointed out and objection voiced to tho excessive fares created through the enforcement of higher rates ever the first section from tho tram termini. The' deputation was assured ; that their- representation in this respect appeared reasonable and that steps would be taken to see if twopence could not be charged for the first section from the post office and one penny for each succeeding section. Mr. Morrison said they had also reminded Mr. Baildon of the promises made to extend the tram services beyond the existing termini. No definite reply was received on this point, although they were given to understand that the extension of the tram services would probably be carried out shortly. The council should per-, sist in its agitation until something was done for residents in outlying districts,
