MARKETING OF PIGS.

SCHEME TO BE FORMULATED. ACTION IN SOUTH AUCKLAND. [BX TELEGRAPH, —own correspondent, J HAMILTON; Friday A meeting under tho auspices of the Wsi'ifato Sab-"Provinci»l Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in Hamilton to-day to discuss tho establishment of a co-operative scheme for pig marketing. Tho desirability of such & scheme has been approved, by previous meetings gad all branches of the union. Mr. Dynes Pulton, chairman of . directors of the Now Zealand Co-oporative Dairy Company, and representatives from the South Auckland district were present. Mr. W. H. Worsts? presided. Mr. <7, E. Mskgill, # chairman of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, said his company, which represented interests identical with those of the cooperative companies, was prepared to assist in every way with a sound schema for ihe co-operative marketing of considered that conditions in the United Kingdom were now favourable for making a definite move. The freezing company had every facility at Horotiu for killing, freezing and storing pigs, while the organisation which already existed for the collection of calves could be utilised. With these facilities baeoners could be exported regularly as required and little difficulty would lie experienced in marketing them. The percentage ox unex'portable pigs was, how ever, the most difficult problem to be faced. Figures from the Southdown works showed that about 14 per cent were unexportable, and some two per cent, were condemned. Mr. Dynes Fulton said he considered the time was entirely opportune for the establishment of the scheme. If producers would combine and take advantage of the facilities available he hid no doubt that the position could be greatlv improved. He contended that a move for tho establishment of a permanently and properly-organised scheme must come primarily from the suppliers to the cooperative dairy companies, who would have to guarantee a supply of pigs in the same way that they supplied milk or cream to the dairy factories. Mr. Jadd moved and Mr, Fulton seconded a motion that a committee should be set up consisting of represent atives of the dairy companies in the South Auckland district, with the object of formulating a definite scheme. The resolution was carried unanimously. In reply to a question Mr. Mskgill in timated that the freezing com pan v would be prepared to undertake the erec (ion of suitable plant to deal' with the curing of the unexportable pigs, at a charge per head to be fixed later, if the committee decided to ma&e use of the company's facilities at Horotiu. The following were elected members of the committee:—Messrs. H. H. Sterling. New Zealand Dairy Company'; F. W Baker, Horotiu: J. E. Leeson, Morrinsville; J. E. West, Hinuera; and M. j Wells,, Cambridge. j
