PROGRESS AT PAPAKURA.

NEW BANK BUILDING. CONCRETING MAIN ROAD. [BY inELEGBAJH.—6WN CORRESPONDENT. ] PAPAKURA, Thursday The new Bank of New Zealand building at Papakura was opened for banking business yesterday. Situated next the post office and constructed in permanent material with colonnade front and tiled roof, it is a handsome acquisition to the town. The Papakura Chamber of Commerce at its meeting last evening resolved to congratulate the directors of the bank on the erection of such a fine structure. The concreting of the Great South Road through Papakura was started at the northern end this week. Over three chains a day are being laid to a width of 9ft., this being half the ultimate width of the concrete carriageway. Electric light is being installed at the Papakura railway station and is expected to be available in a few days. Arrangements with the Telephone De partment for the provision of a public street telephone cabinet at Papakura have been _ completed, the Town Board in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce having guaranteed to pay any deficit on the working of the telephone up to £lO per aiunum.

New buildings at present being erected in the town include a two-storey business block, in permanent materials, at the southern end of the business area. The Paragon Theatre is also being remodelled in brick and concrete.
