MILK IN AMERICA.
Much more milk is going down thirsty throats in the United States than in the clays before Prohibition. Apparently, however, the increase in milk consumption is due, not to the embargo on stronger drinks,, but to a very vigorous propaganda by the American Dairy Council, which conducts a *' Drink more Milk" campaign with trans-Atlantic energy, as the fol lowing facts show :—lts annual income is approximately £190,000. Its stall num bers 152 workers. It distributes 8,000,000 pieces of propaganda litisrature annually It . conducts correspondence courses in nutrition, foi the benefit of women living in isolated places. By these means tn four years the Dairy .Council has succeeded in raising the milk consumption in America from 43 to 55 gallons per person per annum; and the intention is declared of increasing it to 70 gallons, which is the annual average consumption in Sweden In England the average was only 24| gallons when the last milk census was taken during the war; but the National Milk Publicity Council estimates that the consumption has much increased since then.
