Miss Evans, of Auckland, is the guest J of Mrs. W. R- Robbie, Hamilton. Mr. and Mrs. J. Taylor, of Hamilton, are staying at the Hotel Cargen. Mr. and Mrs. J. Tizard, of Auckland, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, Wanganui. Mrs. Leslie Matheson is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Jacobsen, at St. Heliers Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland and Mrs. E. Christie, Wellington, are visiting Milford Beach, Auckland. Miss Tickers. Wellington, with her niece, Miss Jean Brown, are visiting relatives in Auckland. Miss Doris Benjamin, of Melbourne, is the guest of Mrs. Max Lichtenstein, Corunna Avenue, Parnell. Mrs. W R. Wilson, Mrs. Roy Wilson and Miss Behrens left by motor on Saturday en route for Napier. Mrs. Huffam, of Richmond, Nelson, and Mrs. W. Mnekay, of Karori. Wellington, are visiting; their mother, Mrs. Jacobsen, at St.. Heliers Bay. Miss Salrnond. the newly-appointed principal of the Craighead Diocesan School, of Timaru, will arrive bv the Remuera toward the end of January. Ladv Marjorie Dalrymple. who returned to New Zealand last week, will, in February, assume control of Woodford House while Miss Holland, the present principal, visits England. Among the visitors staying at the Hotel Cargen are Mis. 0. Renshaw, Taurangji; Mrs. H. Buckleton, Wellington; Mrs. Oliver Samuel, Mrs. Brewster, New Plymouth ; Miss Farrell, Auckland. Mrs. J. B. Eastham and Miss Eastham, who ore visiting the Hon. Mrs. Charles Turton, Twickenham Park, Surrey, are leaving England on their return to New Zealand about the middle of December. Miss Wilkio, lady principal of the Technical College Girls' Training Hostel, Christchnrch, will leave at the beginning of January for America, en route for England, on a nine months' holiday trip. The Raetihi Presbyterian Ladies' Guild last week wished Mrs Whyte and Mrs. Larsen farewell prior to their leaving Raetihi. The president of the guild, Mrs. Henderson, on behalf of the guild, made a presentation to Mrs. Whvte and Mrs. Larsen as a token of the esteem in which they were held by the ladies. Sir Charles and Ladv Todhunter, Mylapore, Madras, are arriving in Christchnrch this week to visit Sir Charles Todhnnter's mother, Mrs. C. F. Todhunter, Merivale. Sir Charles, who is a Fellow of the Royal Historical and Statistical Societies, joined the Indian Civil Service in 1887, and among other important positions has held the chairmanship of the Indian Taxation Committee. Ho was knighted in 1921. 1 A social evening was given to Miss Mil- | som, Mrs. Wright and Mr. and Mrs. W. Scarrow last week in Raetihi by members of the Presbyterian Church. On behalf of the congregation, the Rev. J Heard presented Miss Wilson with a silver teapot, Misg Wright with a china bowl, and Mr. and Mrs. Scarrow with a drawing-room chair In making the presentations Mr. Heard referred to the sterling services rendered to the church by the above ladies ar„d gentleman, A complimentary social was tendered at Coromar.del to Miss Eunice Preece, who has been engaged in medical missionary work in North China for some time, and recently returned to her home at Coromandel on furlough. Miss Preece is a nurse in p. hospital in the town of Ho-kien-fn, 120 miles south-west of Peking. There are only two other Europeans in the hospital, the* doctor in charge and other members of the staff being Chinese. Miss Preece gave an interesting description of the country, people and conditions.
