STREET SHOOTING.
THE INFLUENCE OF PICTURES COMMENT MADE BY JUDGE. A. and N.Z." SYDNEY. Nov. 26. David Allen Burgess, who was found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the death of James Riddel!. who was fatally shot in a street at Annandale in September as the outcome of gang quarrels, was to-day sentenced to one year's 'mpnsonment, the sentence to be suspended under the First Offenders' Act. The Judge remarked that he accepted the contention of accused's counsel that Burgess was influenced to some extent by pernicious picture shows, at which law lessness was presented as something to be admired and where meo who used revolvers and knives were held up as heroes. The Judge said there were circumstances connected with picture shows which were having an evil influence on the youth of the country.
