CHRISTMAS COMPETITIONS.
Scores of entries are coming in for our Christmas competitions, including a batch from the little patients at the Princess Mary Hospital, so I am sure we dial! have some interesting stories and letters on our page in the Christmas Supplement There are one or two points ! par ticularly want to mention. I have just learned that one of the children who competed last year sent in a story which had already appeared in the School Jour nal Well, 1 don't want that to happen again Your stories, poems and essays, please remember, must be your own work, and none of them may have been used before in any publication whatsoever Any work that does not conform to these rules will be immediately disqualified You must also be careful about stating your correct ago The little children, his and eight years old, may, of course, have the help of their parents with spelling and writing, but the ideas must be their own, expressed in their own way. Another point to note is that there is no painting competition open at the present time. One competitor has sent in a "Bib and Bub" already, but as you will see if yon read the other notice about the competitions, it is only the Christ mas cartoons that are to be coloured Date for closing will be announced later And will you please all remember something 1 have told you several times already ? Mark all your envelopes con taining stories, essays, etc., "Christmas Competitions," not Letterbox Corner and Santa Claus' Sleigh, as some of you have
done. My mail is so large just now that it is very confusing to find the letters all mixed up. A number of letters for Letterbox Corner have come in without any ages being given They will be used, if sufficiently interesting, but no letter without the correct age will have any chance of winning the weekly prize of five shillings. Now please make a note of these things, and you will be helping me quite a lot. Christmas Competition and Letterbox entries to be addressed to me at the Herald, envelope marked accordingly. Only letters to be sent to St. John Ambulance are those connected with Santa Claus' Sleigh.
