CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
BAKERS AND PASTRYCOOKS
MATTERS REFERRED TO COURT,
A Dominion bakers' and pastrycooks dispute was heard on Thursday and yesterday before the conciliation commissioner, Mr. P. Hally, The employers were represented by Mr. C. Boon and Mr. R. L. Bush (Christchurch), Mr. Neville and Mr. D. McMillan (Wellington) and Messrs. McGregor snd Montgomery (Auckland), with Mr. J. Heaton Barker ns agent. The workers' . representatives were Messrs. 0. J. \eale (Auckland), A. Collins (Wellington), R. F, Frame (Dunedin), R. A. Brooks (Christchurch), A. E. South (Taranaki) and W. C. Nisbett (Gisborne). The questions of hours, starting time and wages were exhaustively discussed without arriving at any agreement. Tha question of a uniform starting hour for work was the most contentious item, the employers wanting freedom to employ night workers when required and the workers strenuously opposing night-work clauses. Minor clauses in the terms were
agreed to. 'I he main questions cf hours, night work and wages were referred to the Arbitration Court.
