BETTER WORK BY SENIORS

RESULTS ABOVE THE AVERAGE

The half-yearly examinations of the Auckland University College School of Music took place this week.

The examiners, Professor W. E. Thomas, Mus. Doc., and Mr. Edward Craston, Mus. Bac., report that the playing in most grades showed careful snd thoughtful attention on the part of the teachers. The results were above the average in the senior and intermediate grades, and there was a feeling for real musical expression. Some of the younger candidates showed great promise. Many of the pieces were played in an artistic fashion. The sight-reading left a good deal to be desired even in the higher grades. The scales and arpeggios showed improvement in several grades and the younger candidates used their fingers properly in the production of tone and general effects. The knowledge of the uteory reached a high average. Details of results:— PRACTICAL.
