DAMAGE TO ROADS.
TAMAKI BOARD'S CLAIM. A SETTLEMENT REACHED. An announcement that a settlement had been reached in connection with a claim made by the Tamaki Road Board arising out of damage caused to roads was made by the chairman, Mr. M. G. McArthur, at a meeting cf the board last evening. Mr. McArthur said the committee appointed to deal with the Mission Bay case had agreed to accept the defendants' offer of £I2OO. The amount claimed was £BOOO, for damage done to roads as a result of .the carting of material for reading the Mission Bay Estate. The original defendants were the owners of the estate, the Melanesian Mission Trust Board, and the roading contractors, Messrs. Gosse and Mullan. On the application of the Melanesian Trust Board, Winstone, Ltd., the firm engaged by the contractors to cio the carting, was joined as defendants. The sum of £I2OO had been accepted in full settlement of all claims to date, but it was not to affect, the Boad Board's tight with regard to the balance of the roading work yet to be donfe.
