HEAVY TRAFFIC LICENCES. APPORTIONMENT OF FEES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA. Thursday. The apportionment of heavy traffic licence fees between Tauranga Borough Council, the Tauranga County Council and Te Puke Town Board was decided at a conference at Tauranga yesterday, when tho following basis was agreed to: — Tauranga County Council, 56 per cent.; Tauranga Borough Council, 23 per cent, and Te Puke Town Board, 21 per cent. Each local authority will retain 5 per cent, for collection. During the past fortnight a large number of whales have been observed by natives about two miles off Motiti Island. The island natives say they sighted as many as 20 whales spouting at the same time. One old native says he has never before observed so many whales in the locality. The Borough Council has accepted the offer of Mr. G. H. Bell to lease the allotment at the northern end of Devonport Road on which the block of buildings known as Norris and Bells Block is located. A ground rent of £250 a year will be paid.
