SOUTH ROAD TRAFFIC.
DEVIATION ROUTE BLOCKED. BRIDGE NEAR WIRI UNSAFE. _ " ' DIRECTIONS FOR TRAVELLERS.' Preparations for concreting the Great South Eoad between Otahuhu and Papa- - kura have resulted in considerable inconvenience to traffic, and conditions reached a .climax yesterday when a bridge on a deviation near Wiri had to be closed on account of a subsidence in the embankment. , .' _ ..." The Manukau s County Council made every effort to direct motorists by another route, and the Auckland Automobile Association put. through a rush order for direction posts and made arrangements for their erection before sunset. The bridge which has interfered with the emergency deviation necessitated by reformation of the Great South Road is on the Wiri Station Road. The exceptionally wet weather has resulted in the undermining of a bank at one end of the bridge, and the decking has dropped slightly. The service officer of the Automobile Association inspected the roads in the vicinity yesterday morning, and transferred" tha deviation signs to a new route. The following is the route advised by the association for motorists bound for destinations south of Papatoetoe: Traffic should proceed through Onehunga and Mangero to Papatoetoe,. and then Keep to the right down- Wylie Road instead of crossing the railway line.. Continue to the end of Wylie Road and turn to the left and immediately after to the right into Roscommon Road. The route leads through a pme plantation and then turns to the left and crosses the railway at Wiri fetation. From here it leads directly on to,the Great South Road. The suggested route is marked on every corner with posts bearing the indication ''Deviation" or "Hamilton."
