MINERS MAY FIGHT ON.
{REJECTION OF TEEMS. MAJORITY OVERWHELMING district votes kestjlt. ;A.N UNEXPECTED SWING. OUTLOOK NOT SO BRIGHT. )jv TeU-jrmph- Pips? Association—Copyright 'Received 7.5 p.m.) A. an! N'.Z. LONDON. Nov. 19 It was estimated yesterday that the unexpected swing of the miners' district voting would result in IOO.CGO votes being cast against the acceptance of the Gov eminent's terms for a settlement of the strike. The general secretary of the Miners' Federation, Mr. A. J. Cook, said the future policy of the miners rested en tireiy with the conference of delegates to he held to day Fie said the only thing that was certain was that the miners had overwhelmingly rejected the peace proposals. The miners' delegates returned from the coalfields yesterday. It was known, said Mr. Cook, that no recommendation would he made by thern at to-day's conference, which would therefore be free to pursue its own course The Daily Herald in this morning's issue says the delegates' conference will no doubt direct that the Government shall be informed as to the result of the voting i" the districts. It will have to decide whether any further approach shall he made to the Government or whether national negotiations shall be abandoned One of the alternatives which is being considered, says the Herald, is for the districts to proceed with local negotiations and report the results to a further national conference. In any case the vote of the rank and file is regarded as a decision to fight on for honourable terms and' the policy of the leaders will be determined in that light.
