FLOODS AT WESTPORT.

■■■• I— .... - RELIEF FOR SUFFERERS. CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION',] WBSTPORT, Friday. In connection with the damage caused by the recent flood, socials, dances and concerts are being held in West port and in the mining townships of the district on behalf of the sufferers. These are giving some measure of relief in a number of the worst cases. Reports from up country confirm the first news as to farmers' losses being very heavy. Westport, which is on a fiat between the Buller and Orawaiti Rivers, suffered by flooding from both rivers, and there is a great likelihood of the racecourse and the adjacent land ca which the Technical High School is located being severely affected if steps are not taken speedily to control the Orawaiti River. Near its entrance this river has widened, and the flood waters have carried away a considerable portion of the land.
