PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY. THE OPENING CEREMONY. FINE." - PEDIGREE EXHIBITS. MANY VALUABLE TROPHIES. Auckland's first Royal Show will be opened to-day at the Showgrounds at lipsom and will be continued to-morrow and Thursday. The Governor-General, Sir.Charles Fergusson, will perform, the oflicial ceremony and will be entertained at lunchepn by the executive of the show. Distinguished visitors, show judges and prominent citizens who have taken part in organising the Royal Show Carnival Week will also be present. "People's Day" at the show will be held to-morrow and His Excellency will attend to decorate the championship winners., Hie. occasion is one. of the utmost importance, not only, to the primary producers and stock breeders, but also to the general public. A country that depends almost entirely on its primary products for its prosperity must encourage to the utmost and foster .in. every conceivable manner the .development of the industries upon which 50 much depends. The Royal Show Society, established specifically with the object of improving the quality of the foundation stock of the various branches of the farming industry in New Zealand, promises much in all avenues of industry. The citizens of Auckland have risen to the. occasion and in proclaiming a carnival week to entertain visitors have demonstrated. their recognition of the importance of. the fixture. , Breeding the Best Stoek, A. Royal Show emphasises -the paramount importance of breeding high-class pedigree stock, and the- significance of this fact to Auckland farmers is that there will be brought 'into friendly competition at Epsom the best types of the stock on which New Zealand depends for its revenue. They come from all parts of the Dominion and tbe result should prove of. incalculable benefit to the producers of the province. The effect will undoubtedly be felt in no uncertain manner by the secondary producers and; general public. . . ...... .•. , A remarkable array, of trophies has been provided, for the winners at the Royal • Show, the efforts .of tha various breed associations being supplemented in a most gratifying manner by private citizens and commercial firms. The Meat Export Control Board has also made , liberal donations to encourage the production of, the stock calculated to .maintain New Zealand's reputation on the overseas market and to open up fresh avenues of profitable trade. It has., presented... £6O - for the fat lambs most suitable for.New- Zealand's export trade and the typo most , desired for the "London . market. In j addition, with "the object of encouraging tha production of the best type of pig for the frozen pork export tfade, it has donated £IBO for prizes in the large white pig classes. ... The necessity lor the maintenance and improvement of the quality of our dairy is emphasised by the provision of substantial prizes for factory, butter and cheese suitable fois export.
