SLIP BLOCKS HIGHWAY.
GISBORNE-OPOTIK! ROUTE. [B7 telegraph.—own correspondent.] GISBORNE. Monday. During the week a large gang has been engaged in clearing away the extensive slip near the top of the Mere Mere Hill on the Gisborne-Opotiki highway. The slip was over four chains in length and a large quantity of.material has bad to bo shifted It is expected the work of clearing should be finished by Tuesday, or Wednesday next. The operations have shown that a portion of the road has collapsed completely and a number of men are now working at forming a new road at this spot by digging into the bank.
