A DANGEROUS CROSSING.

CABLE CAR FATALITY. COMMENTS BY THE CORONER. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] DUNEDIN. Monday. Additional provision for the protection of people at one of the cable car crossings in Dunedin is a necessary thing, according to the coroner, Mr. J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., who held an inquest to-day into the death of the' child Frances MacGregor Begg, who was run over and killed by the Kaikorai cable car last Wednesday. "This is a very sad fatality," said the coroner, "costing the life of a little girl. It is not quite clear from the evidence of the witnesses what happened immediately preceding the accident. The evidence of the witnesses is quite different. 1 am not able to say what actually happened. "This is a dangerous crossing, and tho question of what additional precautions could be taken arises. We have heard what is done there. No doubt the precautions are quite adequate so far as grown people with all their faculties about them are concerned, but there might be additional protection for children of tender years and for older people. My formal verdict will be one of accidental daath."
