A destructive fire occurred at the Southampton factory of the BritishAmerican Tobacco Company. The damage is estimated at £150,000. Five hundred people have been rendered idle. The factory was the centre of the company's export trade. The firemen were greatly handicapped by the factory being ander Customs bond, as a result of which the doors and windows were donbly barred. The brigadesmen had to light their way into the building with choppers and crowbars.
