RAIN ON TWENTY-ONE DAYS, j ! FALL ABOVE THE AVERAGE. ' CONDITIONS IN AUCKLAND. The weather conditions at Auckland during October were exceptionally boisterous and wet, according to records taken at the Albert Park observatory bv Captain 1). McLeay, the Government observer. Strong winds prevailed during most of the month from the west and north-west and rain fell ori 21 days, the maximum fall being 2.01 in. on October 1. The total rainfall for the month was 7.55 in., or 3.93 in. above the average-for October. The wettest October was in 1890, when the fall was 10.21 in. During October, 1906. the fall for the month was only ,97in. The bright sunshine during last month was well below the average. The mean maximum temperature was (>3.4 degrees and the mean minimum temperature was 53.3 degrees. The lowest reading of the thermometer during the month was 42 degrees on October 13, and the highest reading, 67 degrees, was recorded on October 1, 20, 26, 27 and 31. The mean reading of the barometer was 29.88 in. The highest reading was 30.28 in. on October 23, and the lowest, 29.54 in., on October 28. The maximum velocity of the wind for 24 hours was 317 miles, on October 28, and the average daily velocity was 146 miles. RECORD AT WHANGAREI. GOOD FALL AT HAMILTON. After an exceptionally dry September there was a record rainfall "in Whangarei last month. The total, 10.5 in., has not been equalled during, the period of 15 • years in which records have been taken. The previous heaviest fall for the month was in 1916, when 7.83 in. vvas. recorded. The average fall for October is 4.Gin., and the iowest on record for the month is 1.4 in.. in 1914. At Hamilton the rainfall for October, as recorded by Dr. Douglas, of Hamilton, totalled 8.24 in. There was vain on 25 days, the highest fall, 1.93 in., being registered on Ottober 9.
