EXHIBITION FAILURE.

PHILADELPHIA'S BIG SHOW. ' POLITICS AND BLUNDERS. PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 15. The sesquicentennial exposition is a financial failure, and is to lie definitely closed on November 30. The attendance so far has been only 4,000,000 instead of the anticipated 25.000,000. The principal cause of failure at the back of these figures is a long, consistent •record of mismanagement, mistakes and politics. According to critics thus far the direct cost to thp city is £3.000,000. It wi.politics which placed the exposition on thousand-acre, mosquito-infested swamp. Transit lines had to be improvised, with other hasty arrangements, to make it possible for anyone to attend. Critics attribute much of the lack of attendance to the persistent opposition, the warfare of the churches and Sunday observance bodies.
