SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.

REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. THE BACK-BLOCKS MISSION. Tn-3 Auckland Sunday School Union held its sixty-first annual meeting last evening, the president, Mr. W. D. M. Cluster, presiding. The report stated the new building had proved of considerable help in the work, For the greater part of the year every available room had been let and financial anxiety had been considerably lessened. After allowing for depreciation on fittings find furniture, a substantial sum remained to help the union in its work and reduce its indebtedness. Death had removed two of the original founders of the union in Mr. David Goldie and Air. Edwin Glanville, who had latterly lived in England. The sole surviving founder was now Mr. Enoch Wood. " The death had also occurred of Mr. A. Macdonald, late accountant and honorary treasurer of the union. Fourteen new schools had joined the union and the roll now stood at 370 schools 3083 teachers and 30,762. scholars. Longservice diplomas had been obtained from the National Sunday School Union and presented to Mr. C. A. Stewart, All Saint's Anglican Church, 50 years' service; Mr. O. C. Hames, Papamoa, 50 years; Mrs. Wood, Manurewa Methodist Church, 34 years; and Mr. W. Lee, Mercury Bay, 27 years. The annual scripture examination had maintained its popularity and 135 schools had presented 2433 candidates, of which number 1505 actually sat. The important work of the back-blocks mission was still being faithfully carried on by Mr. E. H. Pain and constant tributes to the work done by the missioner in the sparseiy-populated districts of the province were being received. The property revenue account showed a profit of £572, the rent from shops and offices being £1969, from the Unity Hall, £127 and from the lecture room, £54. The expenditure included interest, £1204 and depreciation of furniture and fittings, £52. The general purposes account showed a loss of £303, the chief items of expenditure being salaries, £570, and scripture examination expenses, £143. The income included a sum allocated from the trading department, which was Stated to have enjoyed a profitable year. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. W. D. M. Glaister; vicepresidents, Miss Winstone, Rev. F. A. Thompson and Mr. James Tyler; treasurer, Mr. W. A. Kendon; secretary, Rev. L. B. Busfieid; committee, Miss D. Earle, and Messfs. S. E. Chappell, J. iW. Court, G. Falla, T. A. Felton, T. E. Fraser, F. W. Gaze, A. G. Jones, W. S. Layland, T. H. Martyn, W. H. Newton and R. H. Utting.
