TAURANGA COUNTY ROADS.
LINK WITH TAHAWAI STATION fnT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TA PRANG A. Saturday. The Tauranga County Council met yesterday, Mr. R. King presiding. A deputation of settlers on the Kauri Road, Katikati, asked the council to favourably consider the provision of a road to the Tahawai railway yards from Kauri Road. It was decided to ask the commissioner of Crown lands to instruct; one of his officers to report on the proposal. Mr. F. Dyson, district engineer of the Puhlic Works Department, wrote with regard to a grant for Bowentown Heads Road advising that it would be necessary to have legalisation of the road completed before it could be constructed through a public domain. It was decided to refer the communication to the Katikati Heads Domain Board. The ongineer also advised that an item of £l4O, pound for pound, appeared on the osiirrmtcs for the roar] ri.Sjning from the Tanranga-Waihi main road down to Tahawai station. Ho would bo pleased if the council would prepare plans and specifications. It was decided to apply to the Minister of Public Works for a straight-out grant of £3OO for the road. Tho secretary of the Auckland Education Board wrote regarding the proposed Pongaknwa School deviation road. He said the board had placed the position fully before the Education Department and had recommended that material assistance be given. Tho board itself was not legally in a position to devote anv funds for the purpose. The county clerk reported that steps were being taken to form a special rating area in order to raise a loan of £4OO for the work. It was decided to make representations t<o the Minister of Public Works during his forthcoming visit in regard to three access roads to Te Puna railway station.
