OFFENCE BY DOCTOR.

FALSE PRETENCES ADMITTED. PROHIBITION ORDER MADE. A charge of obtaining 10s by falsely representing that a gramophone was his property and unencumbered was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by a medical practitioner, George Redpath (Mr. Schramm). Senior-Detective Hammond said accused suffered from war injuries. He took to drink and was now a total wreck. He, had been remanded in custody for a week and was greatly improved as a result. He had iormerly been in practice at Henderson, but it was now suggested that he might bo sent to Canada by his relatives. Mr. Schramm said accused pawned a gramophone which ho had obtained on time-payment. He was one of the youngest qualified medical men in New Zealand and had had a brilliant career. Unfortunately he had been in the same kind of trouble before. He had served on tour fronts at the war, and had suffered from malaria and had been twice blown up by shells or bombs. He was suffering severely from shellshock. Accused demurred when it was suggested that he should take out a prohibition order, but the magistrate, Mr. Cutten, instructed that an order should be issued. He directed accused to come up for sentence if called upon within six months, and to make restitution of 10s.
