MERCANTILE MARINE.
FORMATION OF 80C3AL CLUB. The need of a social club for mercantile marine officers in Auckland -was'discussed yesterday a£ a meeting in the Merchant Servico Guild rooms. Captain C. West, the organising secretary," referred to the great interest the proposal had created among local mariners. --'..v.,' It was unanimously rescued that the club should b© formed. Xdvico regarding methods of procedure was given by Mr. A. Moody, solicitor to the guild, and Mr. C. H. D. Palmer, chairman of the Auckland Navy League. Mr. Palmer said the league was always interested in the doings of members of the Merchant Service find would be glad to give any assistance to the club. A preliminary committee was elected to prepare a report regarding the number of possible members, the amount of the subscription and also the choice of a club, room and cost of furnishing. Captain W. Ross was elected chairman of the committee and Captain West secretary. Other members elected were Cap- r tain T. Braidwcod, Captaia W. White, Captain M. Pierotti, Captain J. H. Carter and Mr. C. P. Gavegan., Mr. A. Moody and Mr. C; H. I). Palmer were elected advisory, members. The report, will be discussed at a meeting next Friday afternoon,- ■■ .
