LAWN TENNIS JN AMERICA. MRS. MALLORY CHAMPION. Beater. NEW YORK. Aug. 23. In the national tennis championships at Forest Hills to-day the final of the ■women's singles was won .by Mrs. Mallory, -who defeated Miss Elizabeth Ryan, 4—6, 6—4, 9—7. Mrs. Mallory's victory was unexpected in view of her record this season. In the final of the women's -doubles Misses Ryan and Goss defeated Miss Mary Browne and Mrs. Chapin, 3—6, 6—4, 12-10. EUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL. INTERNATIONAL PROPOSAL. i. and N.Z. WINNIPEG. Aug. 23. The manager of the New Zealand Rbgby League team, Mr. E. H. Mgj'r, states that the promotion of international matc.hgjs between Australia, New , Zealand- and Canada is under discussion. The, proposal is; that a series shall be- commenced >n Canada next year.
