NORTHCOTE BOROUGH.
KAURI GULLY RESERVE. COUNCIL GIVEN CONTROL. The Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, presiding. With the approval of the Northcote Scenic Board and the council, the Minister of Lands has agreed to vest in the council the control of the Kauri Gully Scenic Reserve. The appointment of the Scenic Board is to be cancelled accordingly, and the chairman, Mr. H. J. Lowe, commissioner of Crown lands for North Auckland, intimated that it was not intended to convene another meeting of the present board to deal with the new entrance to the reserve from Gladstone Road. With , respect to the poll, on the question of rescinding the unimproved system of rating, it was agreed that the council should convene a public meeting for the purpose of giving an impartial explanation of the effect, of the proposed change to capital value rating. A suggestion was made by two ratepayers interested that the position of Denby Lane should be investigated with a view to its dedication, and a connection with Belle Avenue to afford a "short cut." It was pointed out that'the council could not accept dedication unless the roads were properly formed. -
