BRITISH LIBERAL PARTY.
MR. LLOYD GEORGE'S VIEW. " FED UP" WITH LECTURES. On- being re-elected president of the Welsh National Liberal Federation at Rhyl recently, Mr. David Lloyd George referred to the dissensions in the party. Examining the position of Liberalism in North Wales, ho said when he was first elected there were five Liberal and three Tory seats. To-day seven of the eight seats were Liberal. "So close association with me does not seem to have done much harm to Liberalism there at any rate. Whatever may be my defects, Liberalism does not seem to wither in my vicinage. When I remember these facts r I am getting a little fed up with lectures from on high." - Mr. Lloyd George proceeded to analyse the conditions of society, and placed them in four categories:.. The rich, the comfortably off, tnoso who were chronically underpaid, and the "down and outs." He placed the agricultural labourer in , ; the class which was chronically .underpaid. They were thei men whose average earnings were below the essentials of civilised existence. " The miner /(he added) is the most formidable person in this, section, and, believe me, he is/fighting the battles of that section as well as his own at the present moment. The genera] strike was a stupid way of trying to help. I condemned it always, but I still say that when it was clear that the general strike was beaten, that was the chance for settlement." In a criticism of the Government, Mr. Lloyd " George said he was quite prepared to believe Ministers' were doing their best. I do hot believe in these attacks upon the honour of Ministers," he added. "It is quite unnecessary to make charges of that kind, and they positively lower and degrade politics." (Cheers.)
