THE NATIONAL DEBT. . : MAY BE EXTINGUISHED. •WASHINGTON.' Aug. 5. The national debt of America, which is just less than £800,000,000, bids fair to be extinguished by. 1945, with taxes also steadily dropping in the meantime. . The debt is being reduced at the rate of £130,000,000 a year and if Europe ever pays the principal and interest of war debts to America the nation's debt -will automatically disappear.
