TREES IN THE STREETS.
Siv, —In tho Epsom district tree planting in the streets is stilt going on, and probably other places are suffering in the same way by tuis foolish and nonsensical idea of a majority on the Road Board at this time. Epsom has plenty of beautiful gardens and any number of good trees growing in them. In one garden I counted 20 different kinds of trees growing in a space a little over a chain from two trees planted in the street! For some years an ugly' stake stands alongside the . tree. There are a few miles of these stakes in Epsom, and they spoil the pretty roads. If the members of the Road Board would study this , matter and take out the trees from the streets, and use some of the money in keeping the beautiful gi'ap cut, the, streets would be wonderfully improved. "Tlie streets are not tho place for trees. Lot. us have gardens and open spaces with trees, but otir roads arid streets we want clear, open, clean and tidy. If the trees a-re allowed to grow for some years more', they will have to bo taken out then, and will bo a great expense to the ratepayers. ■ " ' A Loves. of Trees.
