THE SENIOR COMPETITION.
PROPOSED ALTERATIONS. . It has been decided by the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Football Union to summon an informal meeting in the ner.r future, at which delegates of senior clubs will be invited to discuss matters pertaining to the senior competition. If it is felt that a change in the conditions is desirable, then proposals will be placed before a general meeting of the union. Several suggested alterations have already been mooted, the most drastic of which have been submitted by Mr. C. W. Oram, whose remits are as follow:—(1) That the senior competition be played in two divisions, A and" B, when the number of entfjes exceeds ten; (2) that the number of teams in the A division shall bo six when the total number of entries exceeds ten, and eight when sixteen or more ; (3) that thb divisions be determined by the result of the last season's Gallaher Shield competition and subsequent entries; (4) that the team having the lowest, number of championship points in the A division shall be placed in the B division the following year, and the winners of the B division in the A division; (5) in the A division the team sooring the highest number of points shall be declared the winners of the championship, and the Gallaher Shield; (6) the Charity Cup shall be played for between the two leading teams in the A .division, and t'no winners shall be declared to bo the winners of the charity Cup; (7) a club entering a team in the A division may draw on its team in the B division, in the same manner and under the same conditions as it can at the present time draw on its teams in the junior grades; (8) in the event of a tie in the Gallaher Shield or Charity Cup competitions, the teams affected shall play off; (9) that if the above remits he approved, the union's solicitor be asked to draft them into rules for submission to the next general meeting.
POLLARD CUP COMPETITION. PONSONBY WITHOUT A TEAM. Owing to practically all the players being included in the A and B representative teams, Ponsonby will be unable to field a senior fifteen to meet College Rifles in the scheduled Pollard Cup match against College Rifles at Eden Park this afternoon. SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOOTBALL. SUGGESTION TO THE UNION. "A Well-wisher of Secondary Schools' Football" writes as follows:—"On behalf of the many enthusiasts of secondary school football. I wish to put forward a suggestion that a secondary school's representative team should be selected from the Auckland schools to play the under 20 representatives. Four years ago was, the last time this successful variety of football was practised, and, being so successful, why not make it an annual fixture ? School football seems to be the only good football played this year, as could be easily seen last Saturday at the Grammar v. King's College match, when one third of the spectators left after seeing the game, while the remaining two-thirds ssemed to have enjoyed the school match much more than the senior one. "The Rugby Union should not object, as the increased gate-money would amply rcwaM their efforts. This would bring secondary schools' football into prominence, and the result would be that in a few years the Auckland representative team would benefit by it." KOHN SHIELD COMPETITION. COMMENCEMENT ON TUESDAY. The Kohn Shield Rugby football competition for tramways teams of New Zealand will be commenced at Eden Park on Tuesday afternoon. The first match will be between Wellington and Auckland. As a curtain-raiser teams from the visiting primary schools representatives will play a match.
