NEW ASSEMBLY HALL.
THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
For soma years the SecJdon Memorial
Technical College fias felt the need for a largo assembly hall. Although the ariginal plans provided for one it will not bo until the end of this month that tenders will be called for the work. The dimensions of the new hall ai'« approximately 80ft. by 60ft. The rear portion of the structure will adjoin the main building and the platform end will be connected by a corridor to tho workshops in St. Paul Street. , Seating accommodation will be provided for 750, exclusive of tho gallery. Physical culture classes are expected to fee held in the day time and the hall will be available for concerts and various club functions. The Technical College Board has provided £BOOO toward the scheme, derived mostly from bequests made to the collego by tho late Mr. W. J. Binns, and tho late Mr. Richard Hindley, and a subsidy has been arranged with the Government. The plans, which have been approved of by the College- Board, are at present in the hands of the Public Works Department, and the hall is expected to be completed by March next.
