HOTELS IN HAMILTON.

MORE LICENSES URGED.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL REPORTER.] ■WELLINGTON, Friday.

A request that additional hotel licenses be allotted to the Borough of Hamilton is made by 66 residents of the town in a petition to Parliament. The signatories say that there are only five licensed houses in" the borough, which includes Frarikton Junction, and is the commercial and railway centre of practically the whole of the South Auckland district. Its population is 16,000, and the proportion of licensed houses is lower than in the majority of New Zealand boroughs. The existing houses are insufficient' to .'cater efficiently for the wants of the residents of the town and neighbouring districts and of the large travelling public passing through Hamilton. .

The petition merely asks for additional licenses and does not specify any number.
