REQUEST FOR PROTECTION.
REPRESENTATIVE DEPUTATION.

A representative deputation from . all sides of the House of Representatives waited. on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works, Hon. K. S. Williams, to-day, to ask that .protection should bo given through the Customs tariff for tho Onakaka Iron Company, Nelson,' which is seriously handicapped in its competition with Indian iron. Mr. R. P. Hudson, M.P. for Motueka, introduced the deputation. - Tho Minister of Customs, Hon. W. Downie Stewart; was unable to be-pre-sent.
The deputation urged that a protective tariff should take the place of the present bonus.
The Prime Minister said he would give the matter careful consideration but he pointed out the difficulty in connection with the tariff, saying that it would mean special legislation.
