OBITUARY.

SIR WILLIAM RIDGEWAY.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.

(Reed. 8.35 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 12. The death has occurred of Sir William Ridgoway, professor of archaeology at Cambridge University.

Sir William Ridgeway was born in Ireland in 1853. He bad occupied the, chair of archaeology at Cambridge University since 1892. Ho was a member of many European scientific associations and a member of several British institutions. From 1908 to 1910 ha was president of the Royal Anthropological Institute and was also president of the anthropological section of the British Association in 1908. He took a leading part in the founding of the Cambridge Department of Anthropology and Architecture. He also published many books and papers dealing with scientific subjects.
