FLOODS AT MERCER.
THE WATER NOW RECEDING.
ROAD EASILY 'NEGOTIABLE.

The Waikato River at Mercer rose an inch last night anc! continued rising slowly to-day. The river i«: now running about 3in. below the level ' reached in May. Horses are still engaged in . pulling motorcars through the flooded road at the back of the station, but it is expected that tho water will now commence to recede.
Owing to a fall in the river north of Mercer the Roose Shipping Company's Rawhiti, which had been held up above the Rangiriri bridge, was able to pass under it last evening. Tho steamer services are now operating to schedule After travelling through to Hamilton to-day thfc service officftr of the Auckland Automobile Association, Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, Reported that the Mercer-' Hamilton road was easily negotiable. The flood waters had almost receded at Ran-' giriri and prompt repairs to the washout, on the road had been effected. Ho considered that cars should be able to pass ovar the bad stretch at Mercer under their own power on Monday.
