RAETIHI RATEPAYERS.
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. ROADING SCHEME DISCUSSED. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] . RAETIHI, Tuesday. At a meeting of ratepayers held last night for the purpose of forming a ratepayers' association, Mr. L. J. Vile presided and officers were appointed as follow ;—President, Mr. L. J. Vile; vicepresident, Mr. J. R. France; executive committee, Messrs. H. W. Littlewood, A. E. Urwin and D. P. Scarfe. The principal matter that came up for discussion was that of the expenditure of the balance of the £15,000 loan that had been raised for road improvements. Mr. Littlewood suggested that they approach the Borough Council with the object of getting it to alter the schedule in connection with the mam street and, instead of finishing the work by bitumen tar-sealing, to ask the council to make a good metal road and save the ratepayers about £3OOO. This was then put to the meeting in the form of a motion. The Mayor said he was not in favour of the motion. He thought it would be false economy as the cost of maintenance would be high. The present scheme had been worked out on an economic basis. An amendment to the motion that the meeting take no immediate action in the matter until the association had procured further information was carried.
