WRIT AGAINST COUNCIL.

CONTRACTS IN SYDNEY. . ACTION OF ATTORNEY-GENERAL. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Aug. 3. The Federal Attorney-General, Mr. J. G. Latham, has issued out of the High Court a writ against the Sydney City Council and the Commonwealth Shipping Board. The purpose of the writ is to restrain the council from giving certain contracts to the Shipping Board, and to restrain the board from accepting the contracts. The most important aspect of the matter from the citizens' point of view is the investigation by the highest tribunal in Australia into the circumstances under which two of the most important contracts for the equipment of a new power house were decided by a majority in the City Council. The contracts mentioned involve the sum of £765,438.
