September 30, October I—Geraldino Racing Club. ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. " Sport," Whangarei.—Tuki contested 17 races last season and ho won three of his engagements, viz., New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase (9.44). Linley steeplechase (10.9). and Iluntly Steeplechase (11.6). Tuki was raced as aged in the season of 1923-24, so that his exact ago is somewhat in doubt. NOTES BY PHAETON. THE GRAND NATIONALS. With Birkenella losing caste for the Grand National Steeplechase and Listening Post reinstating himself for the Grand National Hurdle Race the situation m connection with the two big jumping races to be run at Riccarton has undergone alteration. It in, of course, quite possible for Birkenella to acquit himself satisfactorily on August 10, but still one would like to know that he is relishing his racing over big fences. Fireblight continues in good favour, while a healthy ring pervades Tuki's name. The announcement that Kawini met with a mishap by slipping upon the wharf is a little disconcerting, but though it was deemed advisable not to start hini on Saturday for the Homeby Steeplechase that may not, after all. be viewed in a very serious light. It is to bo honed that everything will go well with Kawini. for he is well entitled to his place in the Grand National field. In regard to the Grand National Hurdlo Race. Ngata holds his place as favourite, find, if all continues to go well with him. he is, I think, pretty sure to keep his place. Nukuma'; is also ticked off among the favourite division, while Listening Post's win last Saturday .will encourage a lot of people to pin their faith to him. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES. Civility, who is stated to have trained on splendidly at Wangaimi, is credited in that particular quarter with having bright prospects of capturing the Winter Cup at Riccarton next week. The nominations received in connection "Pith the forthcoming meeting of the Pakurar.ga Hunt are. it is pleasing to note, in every way most satisfactory, and that means a highly-successful gathering at Ellerslio on August 21 in the event of fine weather. The weights for the various events will be declared on Friday next by Mr. F. J. McM&nemin. Nigger Minstrel, who has not raced since runninsj his • dead-heat with Gold Light in the decision of the Eclipse Stakes at Wanganui last September, it is considered likely, will make a reappearance on the scene when that race comes up next month. It is to be hoped that the brother to Desert Gold will train on all right, for there is a consensus of opinion thaj; had leg troubles not come against him he would have placed many important events to his credit. NOTES FROM ELLEBSLIE. GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS. BY ARCHER. Chamour is working nicely and hit out Well in a six furlong spin with Lomint on Saturday. . Tha Catmint gelding should be in excellent trim for the spring meetings. The telegraphed account of the running indicates that Le Choucas was unlucky in the Brabazon Welter at Riccarton on Saturday. As he was narrowly beaten Le Choucas looks to have an excellent Winter Cup chance. Nippy also raced prominently in the Brabazon Welter and Mr. C. G. .Macindoe's pair are sure to be in demand for the big mile &t Riccarton next Tuesday. King Merv ia infusing plenty of dash into hia work and sprinted 'pleasingly on Saturday. The big sprinter should bo in capital order for the spring meetings. His stablemate Muscali is also doing nicely and will be on hand early in the season. The hunters in training at Ellerslie are only a- mediocre lot, but some of them may improve. One that is making good progress is Master Noel, who ha 3 given a couple of decent exhibitions over hurdles lately. Wenday is carrying a bright appearance and is moving very freely ill her work." This mar* should not be long in winning her way out of the hack class. Consistency has been a feature of the recent form of Block Cruiser, who finished third in the Open Hurdle Race at Riccarton on Saturday. Black ' Cruiser has evidently gone on the right way since racing nt Trentham and should race prominently in tho Grand National Hurdles.

THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS,

ELLERSLIE DIVISION. BY ARCHER.. It is always interesting: at the beginning of each now season to compile a list of the two-year-oldu in training at Ellerslie, p.s a number of them, will be competing in the early juvenile events in tho next few months. There are many rich stakes for twc-year-olds, but in recent years the locals have not dene well in the important events, the visiting representatives proving too good. However, there is always the possibility of one of our youngsters proving above the average. Last season the best youngster at headquarters was Royal Tea, who ivas taken across to Sydney about the middle of the season. Royal Tea's best performance here was to finish second to Lysander in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, but he proved in Sydney that he was a classy youngster. Tho following is the list of two-year-olds in the various stables at Elterslie: N. CUNNINGHAM. Bay gelding by Valkyrian—Fabriquotte. Bay filly by Vnlkyrian—Whitianga.
