DAVIS CUP CONTEST.

STRONG FRENCH QUARTETTE. TILDEN'S STAGE DUTIES. Reuter. NEW YORK. July 29. The United States Lawn Tennis Association has been advised that the French Davis Cup team is expected to comprise Lacoste, Cochet, Borotra and Brugnon. They will sail for New York on August 11. This team is regarded as the strongest to have visited the United States since Wilding and Brookes won the International trophy in 1914. Tilden's return to the stage in August will prevent him from playing in many of the remaining tennis tournaments. He has notified the president of the association that if he is wanted for the challenge round in the Davis Cup contest at Philadelphia he will play on the understanding that be must travel back and forth each day in order to be in New York for evening performances of the play in which be will be appearing. Tilden expects to appear oil August 26 in the first production on Broadway of the play "They All Want Something."
