BRITISH-MADE GOODS.
DURABLE GAS MAINS. 'A striking illustration of the quality of British manufactures was recently afforded in Invercargili when the gasworks department removed mains from a street in which they are no longer required. Though put down 50 years ago, it was found on examination that the bulk of them was in perfect order, and 75 per cent, of them are now being used in another street. A few of the older galvanised iron service pipes were badly pitted with rust and had to be replaced, while others were nearly filled with dry rust.
