WORK OF THE SESSION.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE.
THE IMPERIAL CONFERENCE. MR. COATES' COMING DEPARTURE [BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPORTER.] ' WELLINGTON. Sunday. The session has been in progress for five weeks now and up to the present good progress has been made with the work. In the coming week a further instalment of Government measures will probably make their appearance. It is expected that the Family Allowance Bill will be one of them. It now appears to be certain that the Imperial Conference will assemble on October 19. At the moment it is thought likely that the Prime Minister will leave for London at the end of August, which would give him ample time to settle down and make all arrangements before the opening of the conference. As there will be another steamer leaving about the middle of September, however, Mr. Coates could, if he desired, travel by that boat and still arrive in London in time for the conference. It is still a little earlv, therefore, to sav definitelv * ' ' f" when he will depart. If the work of the session is not finished by the time the Prime Minister leaves the remaining business will no doubt be left in charge of the Hon. W. Downie Stewart.
