CATERING FOR TOURISTS.
LEAD FROM KAWAU ISLAND.
Although considerable attention has been devoted in New Zealand during the past few years to development of the tourist traffic and the reaping of what a Canadian member of the Empire Press delegation described a's the richest crop any country could have little of a tangible nature has been done. With .the example of other countries before them, New Zealanders appreciate the possibilities awaiting the full exploitation of the tourist attractions of the Dominion. A lead in doing - something worth while in that direction is given to-day by Ivawau, Limited, a company which has been formed to take over the greater part of Kawau Island, including the Mansion House, with the object of developing the, tourist and other assets of the island to the full. The majority of Aucklanders are aware of the charm of the island and have a passing acquaintance with its. historic associations as the home of Sir George Grey. Its appeal has been such that the accommodation afforded for tourists during the summer by the Mansion House and the other accommodation available has been taxed to the utmost. The company, therefore, has already the goodwill of the summer visitors, but it is its intention to go further afield and create an all-the-year-round traffic. To this end the methods which have created a profitable tourist traffic for the more-noted scenic resorts of the world will be followed.
