ROSKILL RATEPAYERS.
RESIGNATION OF CHAIRMAN.
VOTING RIGHTS OF MEMBERS. The constitution of the Roskill West Ratepayers' Association was discussed at a general meeting last evening. When the meeting opened, a ratepayer challenged the right of several present to vote. The chairman, Mr. L. A. Thompson, said several ratepayers outside the boundaries recognised by the Westerp Association had been admitted, but since their subscriptions of 2s 6d had been accepted they were entitled to vote.
A resolution expressing disagreement with the ruling of the chairman was lost. To satisfy the objectors, a motion was then carried accepting the bona-fides of those whose voting power was questioned. It was then announced that there were several in the room who aspired to membership and, on paying their' subscriptions, they were made members. When a report was received from a deputation which had waited on tse Mount Roskill Road Board to urge the inclusion of Three Kings Road in the concrete proposal, at present limited to Dominion Road, the discussion was suspended several times on account of points of order being raised.
One man left, after complaining that a few speakers "were monopolising the meeting." Tho chairman nnnounced his resignation, partly on tho grounds that he had "been made a chopping block" for things for which the executive was responsible. A motion requesting him to continue in office was carried unanimously, but Mr. Thompson refused to do so. The resignation was then accepted with regret, and Mr. A. Treadgold was elected to the chair.
